LOCAL ISSUES, Chach. Uncertain ruler, 7th-8th century. AE (Bronze, 24 mm, 1.67 g, 4 h), Kanka. Facing bust slightly turned to right, wearing a flat-topped head-dress and a neck-ring with a circle in the middle; star in crescent to left, right, and above; all within a circle. Rev. Lyre-shaped tamgha; around, ‘ZNH pny tkʾyn cʾcynk γwβ’, i.e. ‘yu pan-i Tegin Čāčēnk xūβ’ (‘This is a coin of Tegin, king of Chach’ in Sogdian). Shagalov & Kuznetsov 98. Zeno 16170. Extremely rare. Areas of weakness and with some porosity and cracks, otherwise, very fine.
